DB’s directive to Secy Higher Education

JAMMU, Dec 16: Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar and Justice Bansi Lal Bhat today directed the Commissioner Secretary Higher Education Department to remain present in the court on next date of hearing to explain the steps taken for implementing the assurance given by the Advocate General regarding setting up of Degree College at Majalta.
The direction was passed in a contempt petition filed in a Public Interest Litigation which was disposed of in the year 2002  by the court on the assurance of the then Advocate General that Government has already taken initial steps for setting-up a degree college at Majalta and will accord active consideration to such claim in respect of Chenani, Sunderbani and Kalakote areas.
Advocate Abhinav Sharma appeared for the PIL whereas AAG Rakesh Khajuria and Advocate Gagan Basotra for the State. The DB has also directed Commissioner/ Secretary Higher Education Department to file affidavit before December 18.
