Srinagar Dec 14:Police today fired dozens of tear smoke shells to quell a protest demonstration in Budshah Chowk in the city Centre here against faulty ration distribution.
Residents of Maisuma locality in the city centre came out on Moulana Azad Road at Budshah chowk and blocked the traffic. The protests while chanting anti-government slogans set their ration cards on fire.
Police fired tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters as it had led to massive traffic jam in city Centre.
The protesters alleged that the government is trying to push the people to the wall but they are not going to tolerate it any more. “We are not going to tolerate such kind of discrimination. Announcing five kgs of ration is clear example of discrimination,” they said.
The CAPD department has reportedly said that five kg of ration will be provided to each person among all categories throughout the State.
