JAMMU, Dec 7: Twenty-one days long UGC Refresher course in the faculty of Behavioural Sciences- Inter disciplinary, being organized by UGC Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC) and Department of Environmental Sciences, commenced this afternoon at the University of Jammu.
Prof R D Sharma, Vice-Chancellor JU, who was chief guest in the inaugural function, exhorted upon the teachers to make best use of the inter-disciplinary training programme as this will help in understanding the psychology of the students from different backgrounds. He stressed on the overall development of the students and said that teachers have a crucial responsibility in today’s time as the students are very intelligent and articulate and keeping in view these things there is a need to get ourselves updated.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Prof Anil Raina, Head Department of Environmental Sciences and Co-ordinator of the programme, said that the refresher course has been organized in the interdisciplinary subjects with updated lectures from eminent teachers and resource persons.
Prof Naresh Padha, Director, UGC HRDC, gave a brief overview of the interdisciplinary refresher course and said that this course will provide the participants with an opportunity to interact with the resource persons who have done pioneer work in their fields and also with the participants from different places and backgrounds.
Prof Arti Bakshi, Head, Department of Psychology, also spoke on the occasion. Prof Mehmood S Khan of Aligarh Muslim University, expressed his happiness on the academic environs of the University of Jammu.
Prof Khan further said that such types of training programmes in interdisciplinary subjects provide an opportunity to the teachers to understand the behaviour of students. He asked for channelizing the energy of students and said that the teachers can play a great role in moulding the young generation.
Later, Ranjeet Kalra, Assistant Director, presented the formal vote of thanks.
Around 40 teachers from various Colleges and Universities from within and outside the State, are participating in the twenty-one days refresher course.
