JAMMU, Aug 30: Former MLC Choudhary Gulzar Ahmed and Anam Hafiz Choudhary, members, State Advisory Board for Development of Tribal People (SABDTP) met Dr Rameshwar Oraon, Chairman, National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST), Government of India and discussed various issues regarding development of Gujjar community in J&K.
They apprised Dr Rameshwar Oraon about the sufferings of the Scheduled Tribe community and also submitted memorandum pertaining to the welfare of the Gujjar community in J&K.
They demanded opening of a Tribal University at Rajouri Poonch, where 70 per cent population belongs to ST category.
They apprised Dr Oraon that presently this down trodden community is facing manifold problems and steps are required for their upliftment.
They also demanded framing a Gujjar Regiment in the Army, special recruitment drive for ST category in Para Military Forces and State Police, grant of promotional as well as prize posting benefits to the IAS/KAS officers belonging to ST category and political reservations for ST category people.
Dr Rameshwar Oraon assured them that he would try his best to redress all the grievances faced by the community through out the J&K.
