RAJOURI, Aug 29: The BSNL landline and cell-phone service remained disrupted for hours together in border districts of Rajouri and Poonch this evening.
Thousands of consumers kept trying numbers to these two districts  through land line as well as the mobile phones from nearly 5 pm onwards but till 10.30  pm there was no connectivity to these areas. Even the important police numbers including those connecting DCs/ SSPs and even of  the Police Control Room at these districts headquarters, were not responding for hours together.
A large number of helpless consumers rang up this office in the evening, narrating their tale of woes and said that they were unable to pass important messages to their families and friends. A report from Mendhar said that BSNL service has virtually been collapsed in the Sub-Division and many towers of the company were not functioning for the last two days. It said the concerned field staff in the Sub- Division hardly listens to the public despite the fact that people had staged protest demonstration in the area last week.
A senior BSNL official when contacted at around 10.30 pm in Jammu told that an Optical Fiber Cable (OFC) between Rajouri and Jammu has been disconnected and the field staff was on the job to detect the problem and rectify it. He however, refused to give anytime frame to restore the service to these districts.
