The students were thousands in number and the Army authorities had sought Police help to control the large crowd of the youth at the venue. There was mess at the venue and for some time the process was suspended by the Army personnel. This created resentment among the youth and they resorted to stone pelting. The police started lathi-charge on the violent youth.
During the clash at least eight youth were injured. One of them received serious injury on his nose and was bleeding constantly. He was later removed to Sub District Hospital, at Akhnoor and then referred to Govt Medical College Hospital, Jammu. He was hit with the lathi on his nose and his bone is said to have broken. The recruitment process was later restored with the intervention of senior police and Army officials.
A Defence spokesman when contacted denied the lathi-charge and use of force on the youth at the venue for recruitment.
