RAJOURI, Oct 21: Expressing resentment over ban on reservation in promotions to people belonging to SC, ST, OBC, ALC and RBA categories, the district unit of All India Confederation of SC, ST and OBC Organizations today said if the Government fails to protect the rights of SC, ST and OBC employees then the it will gherao the Civil Secretariat on its opening in Jammu and take out ‘Save Reservation Rally’ on November 1.
Addressing a largely attended one-day convention on ‘Save Reservation’ held here today, RK Kalsotra, State president of the Confederation, lambasted the Government for its failure to come forward in defense of reservation in promotions, which was banned after recent judgement of State High Court.
Kalsotra said, “It is entirely the failure of the present Government, which could not defend its own Reservation Act 2004”. He appealed the Government to do everything to protect the constitutional rights of reserved categories and in the meantime ask the Law Department not to implement the State High Court’s Judgement dated October 10, 2015.
He urged the Ministers, MLAs, MLCs and other legislatures to take up and pursue the matter vigorously. “In case the Government fails to protect the rights of reserved categories, the confederation will expose the Government and gherao the Civil Secretariat on its opening in Jammu”, he warned and appealed the aggrieved people belonging to all reserved categories to unite and take part in thousands at Jammu in ‘Save Reservation Rally’ on November 1.
Meanwhile, MLA Rajouri, Ch Qamar Hussain, who attended the meeting as chief guest, assured the confederation of taking up the matter with the State Government.
