JAMMU, Sept 28: On the eve of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh’s birthday celebration, former Minister and State president NCP, Thakur Randhir Singh, demanded Bharat Ratna for him.
While addressing media persons here today, NCP State president said that every country which has fought freedom movement has build beautiful National memorials in the memory of their freedom fighters, but it is unfortunate that the successive Congress Governments in Centre not only ignored the freedom fighters like Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, Rajguru and Subhash Chander Bose but also distorted the history of freedom fighters movement.
The former Minister said that it is unfortunate that the rulers of India after Independence encouraged Raibahadurs appointed by the Britishers who were their tools and never thought of building memorials of the great martyrs like Bhagat Singh.
He regretted these freedom fighters, who gave their today for our tomorrow have been described in some of our textbooks as terrorists instead of National revolutionaries by the successive Governments in Delhi.
Singh said that now there is totally changed atmosphere in the country and why not we award Bharat Ratna to Bhagat Singh, Netaji Subhash Chander Bose, Lal Bhahadur Shastri and other martyrs of India.
He said that the time has come to build a National memorial with its branches in all States, inscribing the names of all freedom fighters and also Army memorials mentioning the names of all awardees of Param Vir Chakra, Mahavir Chakra and Vir Chakra.
Singh said it is very unfortunate that some of the awardees of Padam Vibushan and Padam Shree want an enquiry by a powerful commission to investigate the selection of these awards and particularly in Jammu and Kashmir where undeserving people have been awarded Padamshree etc on the recommendation of the political bosses.
