SRINAGAR, Sept 22: Security forces today recovered arms and ammunition of a militant, who was killed in August last month after drowning in a canal in north Kashmir.
Sources said that Army’s 52 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Special Operations Group (SOG) had received specific information about the presence of a bag full of arms and ammunition at Rakh village of Hygam area in the outskirts of Sopore in Baramulla district yesterday.
Following the information, the security forces launched a search operation and today recovered the bag from stagnant water. “The security forces today at 4.30 pm recovered one pistol, two grenades, three AK magazines, 90 AK rounds, on Icom Radio set, one pouch and a blanket,” the sources said.
They revealed that the bag belonged to the deputy commander of Lashkar-e-Islam (LeI) Tariq Ahmad who died as a result of drowning on August 3 while fleeing security forces. Tariq was accompanied by his chief Abdul Qayoom Najjar who managed to cross over the canal and survived.
