JAMMU, Sept 6: ‘Power’, a play originally written by Mohan Singh in Dogri and translated in Hindi by Ramesh Mehta was presented by Natrang in its Sunday Theatre Series here at Natrang Studio Theatre.
The play was ably directed by Neeraj Kant. As the name suggests, the play revolves around power and the people who have it. A Minister in power is shown surrounded by sycophants who are ready to comfort him by any means because they are afraid of his power.
One day, when all the newspapers were decorated with his praises and publicity, one newspaper could dare to publish his real story. This infuriates him and vindictively he summons the owner of that paper and threatens him, who was already very fearful as the story was published without his knowledge, on which, he had already suspended the editor. Afraid of the power of the minister, the owner of the newspaper is very apologetic and wants to patch up with the Minister, even if he has to give a huge amount for this. But at the same time, a news gets viral that the Minister’s Government has fallen as the coalition has taken their support back.
On hearing this, everyone around him, who used to respect him just because of his power, changed their colours, as he has become toothless and could not harm them anymore. The owner of the newspaper takes his money back and even the assistants of the Minister leave him to join the next one coming to power. The play very brilliantly shows that how people change with the changing time and with power, you could make people obey you but to get respect, you have to win their hearts with your good deeds.
Natrang actors who performed in the play included Hitanshu Jinsi, Shivam Singh, Yash Manhas, Karan Tandon and Kamal Mishra. The lights were designed and operated by Rohit Sharma. Rajan Thakyal did the presentations and the show was coordinated by Mohd Yaseen.
