Srinagar, Apr 13: One militant was killed during an encounter in Kamla forests of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district this afternoon while massive searches are going on to trace out the other militants.
A Defence spokesman said that Army killed a militant in Kamla forest area of Buchoo in Tral in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district this afternoon.
The spokesman said: “Consequent to the recent attack by militants on the security forces Army had intensified search operations at places from where inputs about likely presence of militants was being received. One such operation at Kamla Top resulted in contact being established South of Hurdu Mir area of Tral”.
“The terrorist were effectively engaged and one terrorist was eliminated. Search of the area led to recovery of the body of the slain terrorist, two AK 47 rifles and large quantity of war like stores’, said the spokesman.
The militant has been identified as Khalid Bashir, cousin of HM commander, Burhan who is most wanted.
Army detained three persons from the forest area and they have been handed over to the police for questioning.
Reports said that Army and police had information about the presence of three militants in the forest area. The cordon around the forest area is on and searches have been put on hold and resumed in the morning.
Soon after the news about killing of a man reached Tral, people protested against it alleging that he was a civilian. The protests were on till reports came in.
In the meantime, massive operations to eliminate militants responsible for the killing of three police men are going on in Shopian district of South Kashmir. It may be mentioned here that on April 6, a group of militants killed three police men at Ashipora village of Shopian district.
Several villages of Shopian and Pulwama districts were cordon and search operations were conducted by police’s Special Operation Group (SOG) and Army’s Rashtriya Rifles (RR).
Last Saturday, 62 RR of Army and SOG cordoned off DK pora village of Imam Sahab in Shopian for more than 24 hours after reports that the militant group was present inside the village. However, no one was found there after intense searches.
