Woman, 2 daughters die

JAMMU, Apr 5: A woman and her two minor daughters died of suffocation in their rented accommodation at Digiana in city outskirts.
According to a police spokesperson, a fire broke out late last night in a small rented room in which the deceased woman identified as Neelam Kumari (24) wife of Kuldeep Pandey along with her two daughters, Meenakshi (2) and Sonakshi (7 months) were sleeping.
“The husband of the deceased lady, who was a mason by profession, was out of station”, he said, adding the family basically belonged to Madhavpur in Uttar Pradesh and was living here in a rented accommodation for quite some time.
He said prima facie it appears that the trio died due to suffocation as the fire was minor and only the woman got some minor injuries in the fire while at the same time there was no ventilation in the room.
The matter came to light when in the morning a neighbour’s child knocked at their door and found no response from inside the room. He told the matter to his family members who informed the police, which broke opened the door of the room, which was full of smoke.
The police shifted all the three bodies to mortuary room of Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, for conducting post mortem and informed their family members in Uttar Pradesh.
A case has been registered and investigations started.
