26/11 mastermind Lakhvi denied bail in kidnapping case

ISLAMABAD : Pakistan’s judicial magistrate today rejected Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi’s bail plea in a kidnapping case. The alleged mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai attacks is also a suspect in a case pertaining to the abduction of a man named Anwar six and a half years ago.
Lakhvi’s counsel, while submitting the bail application, contended that the kidnapping case against his client is false. The public prosecutor, Nabeel Tabish, argued that until and unless investigation is complete, the First Information Report (FIR) against Lakhvi cannot be dismissed. On hearing both sides’ arguments, Judical Magistrate Naveed Khan then rejected Lakhvi’s bail plea. Lakhvi was arrested by police last year following registration of the kidnapping case in December. Lakhvi, 54, is also facing trial on charges of training terrorists and facilitating the Mumbai terror attacks which killed over 160 people.
