JAMMU, July 27: As decks have already been cleared, the Jammu will have another Flyover connecting Bikram Chowk to Satwari soon. With its construction a long cherished demand of Jammuites would be fulfilled as the construction of Flyover will ease the rush of the traffic on this strip of the National Highway and provide a lot of relief to commuters and commonman by relieving them of traffic jams often taking place on this portion of National Highway.
The Project will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 90 crore. It will consist of two components. One is eight lanning of road from Bikram Chowk to Satwari with construction of four bus bases and two under passes while another was construction of Flyover from Bikram Chowk to Satwari.
The work of the Project has been assigned to ERA and the Government has set the process in motion to start the work by acquiring the land for the project. Out of Rs three crore compensation to be paid for land acquisition to private parties, Rs two crore have already been released, Chief Executive Officer, ERA Sourab Bhagat told Excelsior.
He said the international bidding will be held for allotment of the work and tenders will be floated in first week of next month. The foundation of the Project will also be laid in next month while the tendering process and allotment of work will be completed in four months time, he added.
Mr Bhagat said after the completion of tendering process, the construction work will start in the month of November and the project will be completed in two years period. The Flyover will have two limbs with 1.30 kilometer and one kilometer length each. The one kilomentre long Flyover limb will start from Bikram Chowk and it will land just behind Satwari Chowk while the one kilometer long limb of Flyover will also take off at Bikram Chowk and it will land just behind Church Gate.
He said for the widening and eight lanning of the road the land acquisition process from private parties is complete and they have already taken the money. Now only a Cabinet approval is to be sought for transfer of land from department to departments as 14 Government Departments are involved whose land will be acquired for the widening of road and construction of Flyover. These included PHE, BSNL, PDD, Cultural Academy, SRTC etc. This process will start soon after the approval of Cabinet to the proposal in this regard, he added.
The ERA has already done pier markings for Flyover. Markings on all 40 piers have been done. The SRTC has been paid Rs 3.50 crore for shifting to another place while some portion of Kala Kendra lawn and ITI will also be acquired for the construction of Flyover. However Amar Singh Club, which falls on National Highway near Bikram Chowk, will not be touched, he added.
It may be recalled that construction of this Flyover was a long cherished demand of the people of Jammu as heavy rush of traffic at Bikram Chowk, in front of Women College Gandhi Nagar, Convent School and Church was causing a lot of inconvenience to commuters.
