JAMMU, July 26: As one week is only left for last darshan of 39 day long Amarnath yatra, which will culminate on Sawan Purnima coinciding with Raksha Bandhan on August 2 with the darshan of Charri Mubarak (holy mace) in cave shrine, the number of pilgrims daily visiting the holy cave has considerably come down as only 3790 yatris performed darshan today.
With this the total number of pilgrims visiting the holy cave in South Kashmir district of Anantnag in last 32 days of yatra has reached 5,99,756 an official spokesman said.
Till late last night over 5.95 lakh pilgrims had performed darshan in holy cave, he said adding the weather was pleasant during the day in the yatra area though it rained for a while in the morning.
He said one youth working with a langar was electrocuted while two were injured when they were shifting the luggage in a vehicle at Baltal after touching a LT Line running over head. The deceased has been identified as Sonu, 26 son of Lal Chand of Abhor Punjab.
The two injured were identified as Tarseem Lal, 28 son of Chatra R/O Tuhandala, Haryana and Shambo, 29 of Jankpuri New Delhi. The duo were hospitalized.
With this the total number of deaths in the ongoing yatra has reached 101, the spokesman said.
He said 1,667 pilgrims left the Base Camp of Nunwan, Pahalgam via traditional Chandanwari track while 2,047 left via shortest 16 kilometere Baltal track.
He said the yatris who left from Baltal returned after performing darshan in the evening while those who left from Chandanwari track after a night halt at Sheshnag and Panchtarni will perform darshan tomorrow or day after tomorrow.
The yatris putting up at various camps on Chandanwari track also started their onwards journey this morning, he added.
Meanwhile New India Assurance Company said that insurance cover taken by Amarnath Shrine Board is only for 4.4 lakh registered pilgrims where as the yatra has touched six lakh during current year.
Dr Dalip Pandita Divisional Manger of the Company said this insurance does not cover death due to cardiac arrest, high altitude, sickness, breathlessness or due to lack of any medical facility which has caused most of the deaths during current year.
He said the postmortem report is the only document required by the company for the settlement of claim.
Amid tight security, a fresh batch of 530 pilgrims today left for the Amarnath cave shrine in the South Kashmir Himalayas.
The pilgrims comprising 401 men, 122 women and 7 children left in a cavalcade of 27 vehicles from Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu at around 0555 hours for Amarnath.
With today’s batch, as many as 90,548 pilgrims have left Jammu for their onward journey to the cave shrine.
