UDHAMPUR, June 6: MLA Udhampur East, R S Pathania, today inaugurated the newly constructed school building of Government High School Kakrai and another sports infrastructure project in his constituency, developed at a cost exceeding Rs 1 crore.
While addressing gathering on the occasion, the MLA stressed that contractor agencies must be held accountable in accordance with prescribed norms, standards, tender conditions and allotment terms. He expressed concern over the growing trend of development works being tendered and allotted at abnormally lower rates, in some cases more than 50 percent below estimated costs. Such practices, he observed, often raise serious questions regarding the quality and durability of the works executed.
During Jan Bhagidari programmes held at, Kawa, Kakrai, Kuh Nallah, and Bassan (Sunal), across the lengths and breadths of Udhampur East constituency, the MLA interacted with local residents and reviewed several public issues. He discussed demands pertaining to the construction of T-roads, macadamization of roads at Kangua, Kasheri and Ritti Patha, besides other developmental requirements raised by the people.
He also called for the macadamization of the PDC roads in Kawa and adjoining areas and stressed the need for undertaking protection works along the Tawi River around Kawa, Thanoa and Jaganoo. He urged the concerned departments to take immediate corrective measures to regulate the river course and execute necessary protection works to safeguard public and private property.
Reviewing the progress of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) projects, Pathania directed the concerned authorities to expedite the completion of all ongoing works. He further announced the installation of new power transformers at Khabda and Upper Kawa. He also announced the construction of new T-roads in Basan and Upper Kawa to enhance rural connectivity and facilitate easier access for the local population.
The MLA further stated that the road connecting Kasheri and Kangua would be taken up for macadamization to improve transportation facilities and provide better connectivity to the residents of the area.
Among those present on the occasion were Ashish Sharma, Mohinder Sharma, (both Mandal Pradhans), local party leaders, officers of various departments and prominent citizens of the area.
