UDHAMPUR, June 2: Senior BJP leader and MLA Udhampur East, R S Pathania, today reiterated his commitment to transforming Udhampur East into a model constituency through focused interventions in infrastructure, drinking water supply, power sector reforms and tourism promotion.
Addressing public gatherings at Dhamma, Thani, Bharnara and later at the BJP Office, Battal Ballian, Pathania emphasized that development must reach every village and every household. He inaugurated the blacktopping of the Dhamma-Thani Road, executed at a cost of nearly Rs 6 crore, besides inaugurating a waiting shed at Sri Kali Mata Mandir, Thill-Roun, built at cost of Rs 5 lacs providing improved facilities to devotees and local residents.
Highlighting the immense untapped potential of Udhampur district, Pathania called for the creation of a comprehensive tourism and pilgrimage circuit connecting revered shrines such as Pingla Mata, Bagge Wali Mata, Kashirah Mandi, Kangua and Thill Kali Mata. He observed that while successive NC-Congress Governments concentrated tourism investments in select areas, the vast tourism and horticulture wealth of Jammu region remained neglected. Promotion of religious tourism, eco-tourism and horticulture-based tourism, he said, can generate employment, strengthen local livelihoods and bring Udhampur onto the national tourism map.
Taking serious note of the drinking water crisis during the ongoing summer season, Pathania said that ensuring potable water to every household remains his foremost priority. He pointed out that several water supply schemes require urgent operationalization and urged the authorities to expedite pending works so that the objective of “Har Ghar Jal” becomes a reality. He accused Government of whisking away SASCI funds & not releasing UT sector share.
The MLA also highlighted major strides being taken to improve the power infrastructure in Udhampur East. He informed that around 100 transformers are being installed, upgraded or augmented, while extensive works are underway for strengthening transmission infrastructure under RDSS and SASCI.
Among those present were Mohan Lal Sharma, Mohinder Sharma, Lalita Sharma, Chaman Lal, Manoj Verma, Kuldeep Singh, Shaukat Ali, Raman Khajuria, Manjeet Singh, Vikram Singh, Santosh Devi, former PRI representatives and a large number of party workers and local residents.
