SRINAGAR, June 2: Admissions to Government Degree Colleges across J&K have registered an increase of more than seven per cent in the first round this year, reversing the declining trend witnessed in recent years, Minister Sakeena Itoo said today.
According to the minister, 49,155 students secured admissions during the first round of the ongoing admission process, compared to 45,920 students admitted during the corresponding period last year.
Itoo attributed the rise in enrolment to measures taken by the Government to simplify and streamline the admission process in Government Degree Colleges across the Union Territory.
She said the Government expects total admissions to exceed 55,000 by the end of June upon completion of the admission process, representing nearly a 20 per cent increase over the previous year’s figures.
“The encouraging response reflects the success of our efforts to make higher education more accessible, transparent and student-friendly across Jammu and Kashmir,” the Minister said.
