JAMMU, June 1: A 31-year-old woman, working as an Assistant Librarian at IIT Jammu, was found dead under suspicious circumstances at her official quarter on the institute campus, police said today.
The deceased has been identified as Yashashvini Yadav, daughter of Yogender Yadav, a resident of Chandel Nagar, Kalyanpur in Kanpur district of Uttar Pradesh.
She was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside Quarter No. 6001, Block Goverdhan, at IIT Jammu.
Police sources said Yashashvini had spoken to her sister two days earlier and told her that she was not feeling well.
She had also arranged an air ticket for her father and asked him to come to Jammu, they said.
Police sources said when her father reached the quarter on Sunday evening, he found the main door locked from inside.
After receiving no response, the family broke open the door and found her hanging from the ceiling fan at around 7 pm.
Police were informed immediately and a team rushed to the spot. The body was taken into custody and shifted for post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, police have initiated inquest proceedings and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
