SRINAGAR, June 1: Senior National Conference (NC) leader and Member of Parliament Chowdhary Mohammad Ramzan today dismissed speculation about political instability in Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that the Omar Abdullah-led Government was stable and would complete its full five-year term.

Responding to criticism over a meeting convened by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah with NC legislators, Ramzan said there was nothing unusual about a party leader holding discussions with elected representatives of his party.
“The Government is strong and we will complete the five years for which the people have given us the mandate,” Ramzan told reporters here.
Rejecting BJP claims that the Government could collapse, he said the opposition was nurturing a “dream” that would not materialise.
“The BJP had also dreamt of forming the Government in J&K. Before the elections, they were claiming they would secure around 35 seats from Jammu and would get support from their A and B parties elsewhere,” he said.
The MP said the people of J&K had rejected those claims and handed the mandate to the National Conference, leading to Omar Abdullah’s election as Chief Minister. “They had already earmarked several seats for themselves. But the people of J&K gave them a befitting reply and handed the mandate to the National Conference,” he said.
Defending the June 3 meeting of NC legislators, Ramzan said such meetings were a routine political exercise and could be aimed at discussing developmental issues concerning constituencies represented by party MLAs.
“Doesn’t the BJP hold meetings of its party leaders? An NC leader has called a meeting of NC legislators. Such meetings are routine and there is nothing unusual about it,” he said.
