SRINAGAR, May 29: A major accident was narrowly avoided today after a loaded trailer truck skidded off the Srinagar-Kargil highway and plunged into a deep gorge near Zojila in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
Officials said the accident took place near Pani Matha on the Zojila route when the 14-wheeler truck, travelling towards Kargil, lost control and rolled down the mountainside.
The vehicle, bearing registration number JK01BC-2359, was extensively damaged in the crash. However, both the driver and the conductor escaped unhurt, officials said.
Police and civil administration teams rushed to the scene and launched rescue and assessment operations. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained.
