JAMMU, May 29: The people have expressed strong resentment against the concerned public representatives for the worst condition of Dhar road from Manwal to Ramkote.
The residents of Tehsils Majalta ( Udhampur) and Ramkote (Billawar, Kathua) alleged that this nearly 25 to 30 kms stretch of the Dhar Road, also known as the ‘Defence Road’, got damaged about three years ago. Majopr portion of this road surface has broken and big potholes have been created all over the road.
There is movement of heavy public transport and the trucks operating between Delhi/Punjab and Kashmir are also plying through this short route. However, due to worst condition of this road stretch, the vehicles have been forced to use the alternative route. This road has become accident- prone due to broken surfaces and many road accidents are occurring on this road these days.
The local residents from Majalta, Khoon, Thial and Ramkote claimed that they took up the issue with the concerned MLAs- R S Pathania and Satish Sharma, who gave assurances to project the issue before the senior BRO/GREF officials, but till today, no maintenance work has been done during past over 3-4 years on this road. Even during the visit of concerned MP/Union MoS in PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh at Ramkote Higher Secondary School few months ago, the local party leaders took up the issue strongly with him. More than three months have passed since then, but blacktopping/ maintenance work on this road has not been started.
The people of this belt have sought the intervention of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and the Lt Governor of the JKUT, Manoj Sinha into this urgent matter of public importance. They said the concerned senior GREF officials be directed to improve the condition of Defence Road, leading to Northern Command headquarters (Udhampur ) from Pathnakot.
