6-drug peddlers held

SRINAGAR, May 25: Police today arrested six drug peddlers in separate anti-narcotics operations in Baramulla, Pulwama and Anantnag districts of the Valley under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan and recovered contraband substances from them.
A Police Spokesperson said that in Baramulla, two persons were arrested with charas-like substance during a naka checking and patrolling operations in Uri and Kamalkote areas. In Pulwama, two drug peddlers were arrested at Parigam Khalsa and approximately 273 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from them.
In Anantnag, the Spokesperson said that one accused was arrested with 6.566 kilograms of ganja-like substance at Sakhras Crossing Chowk, while another person was apprehended after brown sugar-like substance was recovered from a vehicle intercepted near Tangpawa Petrol Pump in Kokernag. Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered and investigations have been initiated.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson said that Police in Anantnag destroyed 522 kilograms of seized narcotic and psychotropic substances at Lassipora, Pulwama. The destroyed contraband included poppy straw, charas, bung boosa, ganja, cannabis powder and leaves, and brown sugar.
In Shopian, the Spokesperson said that Police destroyed illegal poppy cultivation in the Check Sadeeq Khan Imamsahib area after receiving specific intelligence inputs. A case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Imamsahib and investigation has been taken up in this regard.
