Nabin invokes WB-style agitation, warns against complacency in Karnataka

BENGALURU, May 24 : In a politically charged message drawing clear strategic parallels with West Bengal, BJP National President Nitin Nabin on Sunday signalled a sharper street-level mobilisation strategy while stepping up his attack on Karnataka’s Congress government for alleged governance failures and internal factionalism.
Positioning the BJP as a disciplined cadre-driven force preparing for a renewed political battle in Karnataka, Nabin said the party’s focus was on strengthening booth-level organisation, energising workers and ensuring Central welfare schemes reached the “last person in society.”
Addressing BJP karyakartas during the district-level training programme here, Nabin said every party worker was functioning in the spirit of “Nation First” under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and working towards the vision of “Viksit Bharat.”
“Our priority is organisational strengthening, increasing cadre participation and taking the government’s welfare schemes to every section of society. The commitment and selfless service of BJP workers will play a major role in building a developed India,” he said.
The BJP’s nationwide Mahaabhiyan, named after Jana Sangh ideologue Deendayal Upadhyaya, is being seen by party leaders as a major ideological and organisational exercise aimed at sharpening cadre preparedness ahead of upcoming elections.
With the Congress government nearing the midpoint of its tenure in Karnataka, the BJP has intensified efforts to rebuild grassroots momentum and convert anti-incumbency sentiment into political support through district-level training, booth outreach and internal organisational strengthening.
Launching a sharp attack on the Siddaramaiah-led administration, Nabin alleged that the Karnataka government had turned into an “ATM of the Delhi Congress” and claimed governance had suffered due to factional infighting within the ruling party.
“The government has lost touch with public welfare. Internal political struggles have paralysed the administration and development activities have suffered,” he charged while addressing reporters at the BJP state headquarters “Jagannath Bhavan” in Malleswaram.
In a significant message to party leaders, Nabin also warned BJP workers and legislators against complacency, saying the party could not depend solely on anti-incumbency against the Congress government to return to power.
According to senior BJP leader CT Ravi, the BJP chief directed leaders to intensify public engagement, maintain continuous contact with grassroots workers and prepare constituency-wise “charge sheets” highlighting corruption allegations, price rise, law and order concerns and governance failures under the Congress administration.
“Do not remain under the illusion that BJP will automatically return to power,” Ravi quoted Nabin as telling party leaders during strategy discussions.
Nabin, who is on a two-day visit to Karnataka to review the party’s organisational preparedness and election strategy, arrived in Bengaluru late on Saturday night and received a grand welcome from senior BJP leaders at Kempegowda International Airport.
Among those who received him were Karnataka BJP President Vijayendra Yediyurappa, Assembly Opposition Leader R Ashoka, Legislative Council Opposition Leader Chalavadi Narayanaswamy and BJP National General Secretary and Karnataka in-charge Radha Mohan Das Agrawal.
Party leaders described Nabin’s maiden Karnataka visit as politically significant, saying it had infused fresh momentum into the organisation and energised cadres ahead of crucial political and organisational exercises in the state.
On Sunday morning, Nabin visited the historic Kadu Malleshwara Temple along with Vijayendra and another senior BJP leader CN Ashwath Narayan before holding a series of organisational meetings and core committee deliberations at Jagannath Bhavan.
