JAMMU, May 20: Residents of Upper Roop Nagar Housing Colony under the banner of Roop Nagar Welfare Association (RNWA) staged a peaceful protest here today.
The protest was held under the chairmanship of Uttam Deep Sharma, highlighting the prolonged delay in the repair and restoration of a damaged stretch of road leading to the Aap Shambhu Temple.
The protest was organized over the condition of Aap Shambhu Road, a portion of which was severely damaged during heavy rains in August 2025.
While Phase I of the repair work was reportedly undertaken by a contractor, a significant part of the road remains incomplete despite repeated requests by the RNWA to the Public Works Department (PWD) for its early completion.
Residents expressed concern that Phase II of the project has not yet commenced, even though the tender has been approved and funds are believed to have been allocated.
Large amounts of debris continue to lie scattered along the roadside, causing inconvenience not only to local residents but also to devotees visiting the temple and people from adjoining areas.
The situation has raised serious safety concerns, especially with the approaching monsoon season. Locals fear a repeat of last year’s flooding, as the area is known to be highly vulnerable.
They warned that the delay in completing the work could pose risks to life and property.
The protesting residents urged the concerned authorities to expedite the pending work on a priority basis to ensure public safety and ease of movement.
Among those who participated in the protest included B K Sharma, Ashok Gupta, Jyoti Khajuria, Kuldeep Singh, Sagar Dogra, Madhu Gupta, Veena Fotedar, Kuldeep Dubey, along with several other residents of Upper Roop Nagar.
