SRINAGAR, May 17: Authorities in south Kashmir’s Pahalgam today sealed a dhaba and two nanwai shops after food safety inspections found the establishments operating under “severe unhygienic and unsanitary conditions,” officials said.
According to the Food Safety Department, a team of Food Safety officials from Anantnag sealed M/S Lucky Palace Dhaba and two nanwai shops during intensified inspections carried out across tourist destinations in the district.
Officials said the establishments were found violating basic food safety and hygiene requirements prescribed under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the rules framed under it.
The inspection reportedly revealed improper storage of food items, lack of cleanliness in food preparation areas, poor personal hygiene among food handlers, and overall insanitary conditions that posed a serious risk to public health.
Taking cognisance of the violations, the department initiated immediate enforcement action and sealed the premises in the interest of consumer safety and public health, officials said.
The department also warned food business operators to strictly adhere to food safety and hygiene standards, stating that strict legal action would be taken against violators.
