Six held with 470-gm heroin across Jammu region

JAMMU, May 14: Police today claimed to have arrested six alleged drug peddlers and recovered nearly 470 grams of heroin-like substance, cash, weighing machines and a motorcycle in separate operations across Jammu, Reasi and Kathua districts.
In Jammu district, Police Station Gangyal arrested two persons during patrolling near the Power Grid Station in Gangyal Industrial Area on May 12.
The accused were identified as Rakesh Kumar of Amritsar and Jatinder Singh of Model Town Gangyal.
Police recovered around 30 grams of heroin, Rs 68,000 cash and a digital weighing machine from their possession.
A case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Gangyal and investigation was taken up to trace backward and forward linkages.
In Reasi district, Police Station Katra apprehended two persons during checking at Varun Chowk, Katra.
The accused were identified as Suresh Kumar of Katra and Jeevan Lal of Udhampur district.
During frisking, police recovered about 4.7 grams of heroin from the possession of Jeevan Lal.
Accordingly, FIR number 145/2026 under sections 8/21/22/29 of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Katra and further investigation was set into motion.
In Kathua district, Police achieved a major breakthrough in Billawar area by recovering around 430 grams of heroin-like substance and arresting an alleged kingpin identified as Munish Kumar of Kathua.
Officials said initially, police recovered over 15 grams of heroin-like substance from his possession during naka checking at Bhinni Bridge.
During sustained interrogation and subsequent house searches conducted after obtaining a court warrant, they said another 415 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from his residence.
Officials said preliminary investigation revealed suspected links of the accused with interstate and foreign-based narco smugglers operating through Punjab routes.
In another operation in Kathua district, Police Post Marheen arrested one Shakeel Firdouse of Kathua near Mathra Chak and recovered 5.89 grams of heroin-like substance from his possession.
Police also seized a motorcycle bearing registration number PB35S-8392.
Separate cases under the NDPS Act were registered in Kathua district and further investigation has been initiated in the twin cases.
