SRINAGAR, May 6: Police today intensified their crackdown on illegal mining in south Kashmir, seizing 12 vehicles and registering five FIRs in Shopian and Pulwama districts.
A police spokesperson in Shopian, seven vehicles,three tippers and four tractors, were seized during operations carried out by different police teams. He said two tippers and a tractor were intercepted by a team from Police Post Turkwangam for transporting minerals without valid documents, adding that FIR No. 68/2026 was registered at Police Station Zainapora.
The spokesperson said a tractor was also seized by Police Post Berthipora, leading to registration of FIR No. 45/2026 at Police Station Keller. In another case, a tipper was seized by Police Post Saidpora and FIR No. 33/2026 was registered at Police Station Heerpora, he said.
He added that two more tractors were seized by Police Station Heerpora for illegal transportation of minerals, and FIR No. 34/2026 has been registered.
In Pulwama’s Kakapora area, five vehicles were seized during naka checking and patrolling, the spokesperson said, adding that FIRs No. 36/2026 and 37/2026 have been registered at Police Station Kakapora.
