KISHTWAR, May 6: Opening of a liquor shop at Zelna here today triggered a protest demonstration from the locals of the area.
The protesters mostly included the women and they all gathered near the liquor shop and raised slogans demanding closure of the shop.
They also confronted with the cops deputed at the spot.
Some protesting men claimed that the liquor is being sold unfairly in the newly opened shop without issuing any bill to the customers and added that the concerned Excise Department was hand in the glove in this unfair practise.
The cops deputed at the spot tried to pacify the protesters but the latter continued raising slogans against opening of the liquor shop.
One of the protesters claimed that the inebriated people torched his entire crop under the influence of liquor.
He further said that in similar way, opening of the liquor shop in the area may lead to more such wrong activities in future.
The protesters also said that they will not allow the liquor shop in their village as it may spoil their children.
“We will even pay no heed to any order allowing the liquor shop in our area,” they maintained adding that the shop should be shifted to any other place.
