In a statement issued here, EOW said that the arrest was made in connection with FIR No. 19/2017 registered under Sections 420, 467, 468 and 471 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) at Police Station Crime Branch Kashmir, now designated as EOW Kashmir.
The accused, as per the agency, has been identified as Shahnawaz Ahmad Mir, a resident of Tankipora, Shaheed Gunj in Srinagar, who is currently posted as a Senior Assistant in the Health Department.
Officials described him as a habitual offender allegedly involved in multiple similar cases.
According to investigators, the case stemmed from a communication by the Deputy Director Health Services Kashmir, flagging that one Bashir Ahmad Sofi of Mazhama, Budgam, had secured appointment as a Health Educator through fraudulent means.
Probe findings indicate that Sofi allegedly used forged transfer orders and a fabricated Last Pay Certificate to illegally gain entry into Government service at Block Sheeri in Baramulla.
He subsequently drew a salary, causing wrongful loss to the state exchequer, the agency said.
During the course of investigation, Mir’s role surfaced in facilitating or enabling such fraudulent appointments, with EOW stating that his involvement extends to multiple cases that are either under investigation or already charge-sheeted.
The EOW said further investigation in the case is ongoing to identify additional accused and ascertain the full extent of the scam.
