Rajinder Sharma, who is also former general secretary of All India Council of Mayors said after abrogation of Article 370 and re-organisation of J&K the work on Tawi Front got pace in 2018. In 2022 development of Tawi River Front on the pattern of Sabarmati river was approved. With the guidance and progressive administration of LG, Manoj Sinha , Tawi River Front’s first phase is near completion. Now that one and half year has passed since elections were held but no attention is being paid to make this River Front operational. When 31 gates are operational for stoppage of water why Artificial Lake is not in picture?. Why Jammu is being deprived of utilising it’s fullest potential to become a tourist destination, he asked?
He said the project was way back conceptualized by former Governor J&K, Jagmohan but due to certain reasons it could not see the light of the day. Then in 2009 foundation for artificial lake was inaugurated by Omer Abdulla CM of J&K. It remained limited to artificial lake only.
He demanded that this lake be made operational immediately and Tawi River Front be developed as envisioned in first phase at the earliest.
He said on Tawi River Front and Artificial Lake Project Rs 250 `crore were spent till date and up to final stage it would cost Rs 500 crore. “How we can ignore such an asset that could generate an economy of Rs 50,000 crore in Jammu only,. If we talk of J&K such initiatives could generate economy of two lakh crores’’, he added.
Former corporators Narotam Sharma, Tirth Kour, Amit Gupta, Gourav Chopra, Inderjeet Singh Soodan, Rama Kumari, Ghar Singh, Rashpal Singh, Sobat Ali, Tripta Devi, Suneeta Devi,
Balvinder Kumar, Tara Chand and Paramjeet Singh Pammi, were also present in the press conference.
