RAMBAN, May 2: The body of a 22-year-old youth, who was missing for the last 20 days, was today recovered from rivulet Bishlari near Kraalna Digdool in Ramban district.
The deceased, Tanveer Ahmad Chopan, son of Abdul Salam Chopan, resident of Mundkhal, Pogal, was missing from April 12 after allegedly jumping into the rivulet near Magarkoot along Jammu-Srinagar National Highway while attempting to escape from a mob.

Officials quoting locals said that Tanveer was travelling from Jammu with bovines in his load carrier vehicle and he was allegedly chased by some individuals in two vehicles near Digdool. To escape from those chasing him, he reportedly moved into the rivulet Bishlari and was untraceable since then.
A massive search operation was launched soon after the incident by local Police and volunteers. Teams from National Disaster Response Force, Army, Quick Reaction Teams from Ramban, Ramsoo and Khari, along with NGO volunteers and others also joined the efforts but Tanveer was not traced for nearly three weeks.
His body was finally spotted in the rivulet near Digdool today and was retrieved by the rescuers.
The body was in a decomposed state and was immediately shifted to Ukhral hospital for medico-legal formalities.
Police has already registered a case in this regard and arrested four persons Surjeet Singh, Sandeep Singh, Digvijay Singh and Keval Singh, all residents of Ramban town and adjoining areas.
A Special Investigation Team headed by SDPO Banihal, Surinder Singh Biloria, was also constituted to investigate the matter.
The body of the deceased was later on handed over to his legal heirs for last rites.
