The project is being executed by the Economic Reconstruction Agency under the World Bank-funded Jhelum Project, with an estimated cost of Rs 39 crore. Out of this, approximately Rs 33 crore has already been utilized.
Despite the substantial expenditure, Khan questioned the quality of work, alleging major lapses in execution. In a statement, he claimed that blacktopping was carried out directly on soil without proper base preparation or adherence to standard engineering norms, resulting in the rapid deterioration of the road.
He further said that although the concerned department had earlier assured proper re-blacktopping, the contractor has instead initiated patchwork, which he termed inadequate given the current condition of the road.
Expressing concern over the alleged misuse of public funds, the MLA called for a thorough investigation into the matter.
He also demanded a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation to examine the alleged irregularities, fix accountability and ensure strict action against those found responsible.
