PDP didn’t vote for NC in RS polls: Farooq

Srinagar, May 1: Questioning the voting pattern in the recent Rajya Sabha elections, Dr Farooq Abdullah today said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) did not extend support to the ruling National Conference.
“PDP did not vote for us. They should be asked whom they voted for. I had thanked them earlier as I did not know, but now it has come to light that what we had hoped was not the case,” Abdullah told reporters.
The remarks come after the National Conference flagged what it termed “unexpected” voting behaviour in the elections, where its candidate lost despite anticipated backing, fuelling allegations of cross-voting.

Commenting on the West Bengal Assembly elections, Abdullah dismissed exit polls predicting a BJP victory, questioning their credibility.
“I have never trusted exit polls. They have proven wrong in the past, and I hope they prove wrong this time,” he said.
He also expressed concern over rising fuel prices and increased Hajj fares, attributing the economic strain to ongoing global instability.
“Fuel prices have gone up, and nothing can be done about the increase in Hajj fares this year. If this war does not stop, we do not know what else we are going to face. We should pray that the war ends and peace prevails,” he said.
On reports regarding the exclusion of Urdu from recruitment criteria for key revenue posts, Abdullah said no such decision had been taken and that public opinion had been sought on the issue.
“Urdu is our language, even though you know how Delhi treats this language,” he added, while accusing the opposition of lacking substantive issues and holding it responsible for past developments.
