Srinagar, Apr 30: Continuing its focused campaign under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, Jammu and Kashmir Police carried out a series of enforcement, inspection and awareness activities across Pulwama district to curb drug abuse and trafficking, officials said today.
In a major enforcement drive, Police Station Rajpora conducted intensive searches at the residences of suspected drug peddlers.
A cordon and search operation (CASO) was also launched in the Mohanviji area of Kakapora, where houses of suspects and adjoining premises were thoroughly searched for NDPS-related contraband.
Police said surveillance was strengthened through intensified vehicle checking. A special naka was established at Kakapora with the deployment of K-9 squads, while additional checking was carried out at Batpora Naina to monitor suspicious movement.
On the regulatory front, medical shops were inspected in the jurisdictions of Police Post Newa and Mohanviji-Lelhar.
During inspection, records and licences were verified, and one medical shop-Medina Chemists and Druggists at Newa-was sealed for violations, including improper record maintenance and unauthorised handling of restricted drugs.
Meanwhile, awareness programmes were conducted at Sheik-ul-Alam Darul Uloom Drabgam and Government Middle School Mohanviji Kakapora, where students and locals were sensitised about the harmful effects of drug abuse. A Thana Diwas-cum-awareness programme was held at Police Station Litter, while a similar programme at Police Station Pulwama facilitated public interaction, grievance redressal and community engagement, officials said.
