Srinagar, Apr 30: Private schools across J&K will roll out coordinated anti-drug awareness programmes in classrooms and communities after their apex body formally backed the Government’s ongoing “Nasha Mukt Abhiyan”, officials said today.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Private Schools’ Association (PSA) with education authorities at the Directorate of School Education Kashmir, where stakeholders agreed on a structured, school-led campaign targeting students, teachers and parents.
PSA said its affiliated institutions will organise school-level and inter-district activities, including awareness drives, counselling sessions and community outreach programmes, with students expected to play a central role in spreading anti-drug messaging.
Association president Bilal Ahmad Bhat said private schools would “mobilise institutions to create sustained awareness and promote preventive education,” adding that students would be engaged as “ambassadors of change”.
General Secretary M. Syed Wani said schools would integrate awareness modules into the academic environment to help students make informed choices and resist substance abuse.
The meeting also stressed closer coordination between private institutions and the School Education Department to ensure a unified response to drug abuse, which officials described as a growing social concern.
Director Media and Communications Dr Owais Mattoo said the association would use multiple platforms to amplify the campaign’s message among students and parents.
