JAMMU, Apr 30: The Special Crime Wing of Crime Branch (CB), Jammu has registered a case against Sham Lal, a retired Jammu University (JU) employee, for allegedly cheating eight persons of Rs 14.40 lakh on the false promise of arranging Government jobs in MES and other departments.
According to the joint complaint, the accused, a resident of village Seri Rakwalan, claimed to have connections with senior authorities and targeted daily wagers and members of poor families. He collected amounts ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 7,00,000 from the victims.
The complainants stated that their hard-earned savings were fraudulently taken by the accused, who has a reported history of duping people.
During preliminary verification, Crime Branch team found prima- facie evidence that the accused allured the complainants and caused wrongful loss of Rs 14.40 lakh to them.
A case FIR under Section 318(4) BNS has been registered at Police Station, Special Crime Wing, Jammu. Further investigation was in progress.
