JU holds Prof Shailendra Singh Memorial Debate Competition

JAMMU, Apr 30: The Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu, organised the 3rd Annual Prof. Shailendra Singh Jamwal Memorial Debate Competition under the ambit of the “Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan” on the topic “Drug addiction is a societal failure, not an individual one.”
The event was organised for students of affiliated colleges and university departments in memory of Prof. Jamwal. Prof. Pankaj Srivastava, Director, Centre for Distance & Online Education (CD&OE), University of Jammu, was the chief guest at the valedictory function. Family members of Prof. Jamwal, including Dr Sureshtha Jamwal (wife), Narinder Singh Jamwal (brother) and Brij Nandan Singh Jamwal (brother), along with other family members, were present on the occasion.
Prof. Pankaj describing him as a distinguished academician and researcher. Prof. Monika Chadha, Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee, highlighted Prof. Jamwal’s academic and intellectual contributions.
Dr. Madhulika Singh presented a detailed citation on his life and achievements. Dr. Virender Koundal, Director DSRS and Dr Ganesh Malhotra also paid tributes, recalling his significant academic contributions.
Prof. Jamwal was a Commonwealth Academic Fellow in London (2003) and completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the London School of Economics. He worked on “Kashmir Imbroglio and the British Policy 1947-48” and authored three books on J&K history.
In the competition, Shilpa Devi and Karthik Sharma of Jammu College of Physiotherapy secured first and second positions, while Samiyaa Sharma of GCW Parade stood third. Certificates of Merit were awarded to Sarabjeet Hira (GDC RS Pura), Anshika Gandhi (Law School, JU), Ojeswi Rajput (GCW Parade), Arzoo Sharma (MIER) and Priyanshi (MIER). Jammu College of Physiotherapy was adjudged Best Team.
Dr Neena Gupta, Dr Vijender Kumar and Dr Shubhra Jamwal served as adjudicators. Dr Neelam Choudhary was Teacher In-charge.
