CBK files chargesheet in land, job fraud

Srinagar, Apr 30: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of Crime Branch J&K has filed a chargesheet in a fraud case involving alleged false promises of land and Government jobs.

As per a statement issued here, the chargesheet in FIR No. 84/2022 under Section 420 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) has been submitted before the court of Judge Small Causes Srinagar against Bashir Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Astanpora, Tailbal in the Hazratbal area of the city.
The agency stated that the case dates back to January 2019, when the accused allegedly obtained a substantial amount of money from complainants on the pretext of providing Jammu Development Authority (JDA) land in Jammu and securing government jobs for their relatives.
The investigation revealed that the accused failed to deliver on both counts and had allegedly deceived the complainants through false assurances.
The probe established that the money was dishonestly obtained, constituting an offence of cheating under Section 420 RPC.
Based on the evidence collected during the investigation, the chargesheet has been filed before the competent court for judicial determination, the statement said.
