Govt frames Panel to standardise place names

JAMMU, Apr 23: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has constituted a committee to verify and finalize the spelling of place names and their translation into regional languages for preparation of official maps in Hindi and Urdu.
As per an order, Director, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh Geo-spatial Directorate, SoI shall be convener of the panel, while Gulzar Ahmad Dar, Special Secretary to the Government, Planning Development & Monitoring Department, Dr Anju Sharma Thappa, Professor, Department of Hindi, Centre for Distance and Online Education, University of Jammu, and Dr Mushtaq Hussain Magloo, Assistant Professor, Department of Urdu, University of Kashmir, shall be the members.
The committee has been tasked with examining and finalizing the standardized spelling of place names of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in Hindi and Urdu, ensuring constituency with existing official records, maps and notifications and verifying the translation of descriptive remarks from English into Hindi and Urdu, ensuring accuracy and uniform terminology.
