LEH, Apr 16: To press for the early execution of the long-pending tunnel projects at Taglang La and Baralacha La on the Leh-Manali National Highway, a delegation led by former Member of Parliament Jamyang Tsering Namgyal called on the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Vinai Kumar Saxena, here today.
The delegation also submitted a memorandum of their demands to the LG Saxena.
They emphasized that the Taglang La and Baralacha La tunnel projects were initially envisioned alongside the prestigious Zojila Tunnel and hold transformative potential for Ladakh.
They noted that despite their critical importance, progress on these tunnels has remained pending.
The delegation appreciated the proactive leadership of the LG, particularly his recent visit to the Zojila Tunnel site and the sanctioning of the Fotula Tunnel project, terming these steps as strong indicators of the Administration’s commitment to strengthening connectivity and infrastructure in the region.
Namgyal, speaking on behalf of the delegation, underscored that the proposed Taglang La tunnel is not only vital for ensuring all-weather connectivity but also holds immense significance for national security, especially in the context of eastern Ladakh.
He highlighted that improved connectivity would greatly enhance logistical efficiency for defense forces deployed in forward areas.
The delegation urged the LG to take up the matter at the highest level and ensure expeditious execution of these critical projects in the larger interest of Ladakh’s people and national priorities.
The LG assured the delegation that the concerns raised would be given due consideration.
Among others who were the part of the delegation included Tsering Paldan (Former Councillor, LAHDC Leh), Karma Namdak (Former Councillor, LAHDC Leh), Paldan Angchuk Samed (Member), Tsering Dorlak Kharnak (Member) and Tashi Phuntsog Gya Meru (Member).
