JAMMU, Apr 14: A periodical meeting of the Jammu and Kashmir Prisons Retired Employees Welfare Association (PREWA) was held today under the chairmanship of Harish Kotwal, retired Superintendent Jail.
The meeting witnessed participation from retirees belonging to Bhaderwah, Kud, Udhampur, Kathua and various other parts of the Jammu province. Addressing the gathering, PREWA president Krishan Singh stated that the association was established in 1999 with the active support of several retired officers, including the late Mehar Singh, Dina Nath Sharma (Retd.), Hansraj Chib, Romal Singh and Anant Ram, among others.
He highlighted the continued efforts of retirees in strengthening the association over the years. Singh urged the concerned authorities in the prisons and home departments to address several long-pending issues faced by retired personnel.
These include revision of welfare fund rules on par with police organizations, regularization of in-charge promotions, reservation in appointments within prison services for wards of retired employees and improved healthcare facilities.
He also demanded hospitalization facilities for both retired and in-service prison personnel in police hospitals, extension of medicare benefits to families and the speedy filling of vacant posts in the department.
Additionally, the issuance of identity cards to retiring personnel at the time of their retirement was emphasized.
On the organizational front, Harish Kotwal was inducted as Chairman, Naresh Kumar Sharma as General Secretary, Nand Lal as Chief Organizer and Bharat Bhushan as Coordinator of the association.
