Vijay files revised affidavit amid poll scrutiny

CHENNAI, Apr 4: Actor-turned-politician and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) Founder President Vijay on Saturday filed a revised affidavit in connection with his nomination for the April 23 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, following discrepancies in his earlier submissions in the two seats he was contesting the polls.
The move comes after inconsistencies were flagged in his initial affidavits filed from Perambur and Tiruchy East constituencies, particularly regarding the disclosure of pending criminal cases.
Reports indicated that the affidavit while filing nominations in Perambur did not mention a 2025 case, while in the paper at Tiruchy East acknowledged multiple cases, prompting the need for correction.
Election rules mandate full and accurate disclosure, and any omission can attract legal scrutiny or even risk rejection of nomination.
Vijay’s entry into active politics through the launch of TVK ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections has drawn significant public and political attention.
Known for his strong fan base and youth appeal, Vijay, who has declared ruling DMK as his party’s political enemy and the “fascist” BJP as its ideological adversary, has positioned himself as an alternative to the established Dravidian majors like the DMK and the AIADMK, which had been governing the state alternatively for the last six decades.
