The accused, who had been evading capture for years, was found in possession of a Glock pistol and 280 grams of heroin worth several lakhs.
Officials said Lau Gujjar, a resident of Sarore Adda, presently residing at Chak Waziro, Bishnah, carries a staggering criminal record, with 134 FIRs registered against him across Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
They described him as a high-profile target wanted for serious offenses, including attempted murder, kidnapping, rioting, and frequent assaults on police personnel.
Officials said the arrest followed a coordinated raid led by SHO Miran Sahib, Inspector Jatinder Singh, after receiving specific intelligence that the accused was hiding at a relative’s house near the Ring Road at Prithvipur area.
Unlike previous attempts, where his supporters and sympathizers attacked police teams to facilitate his escape, the police successfully cornered and apprehended him with a Glock pistol and 280 grams heroin this afternoon, they said.
According to police records, Gujjar was a key figure in several violent attacks on police teams in Bishnah, Miran Sahib, and Bari Brahmana.
His arrest also marks the dismantling of a notorious family criminal network, with one of his brothers, Falla Gujjar already arrested from Samba earlier in February this year, while another brother, Yaqoob Ali, arrested in September 2023.
Meanwhile, officials said, after the arrest, the accused would be presented before the court of law for deciding the future course of action.
