AIIMS Jammu holds CME prog on World Tuberculosis Day

JAMMU, Mar 24: The Department of General Medicine at AIIMS Vijaypur (Jammu) successfully organized a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on the occasion of World Tuberculosis Day.
The programme was conducted under the esteemed patronage of Prof (Dr) Daya Nand Sharma, Executive Director & CEO, AIIMS Jammu (patron), and Prof (Dr) Meeta Gupta, Dean Academics, AIIMS Jammu (co-patron).
The event was led by Dr Gaurav Gupta, Associate Professor, Department of General Medicine, AIIMS Jammu (organizing chairperson) and Dr Kirandeep Kour, Assistant Professor, Department of General Medicine, AIIMS Jammu (organizing secretary).
The organizing team included Dr Manish Ranjan (Department of Microbiology), Dr Isha Garg (Department of Pulmonary Medicine), Dr Taranpreet Kaur and Dr Ritu (Department of General Medicine).
The CME programme focused on raising awareness about tuberculosis (TB), emphasizing that TB affects not only the lungs but can involve multiple organ systems. Activities included a quiz competition, panel discussions, painting competition, and academic sessions covering recent advances in TB diagnosis, management, and prevention.
The programme also featured a special lecture by Dr Gurmeet Singh, Professor, Department of Medicine, GMC Jammu, on “Tuberculosis in Rheumatology Patients”, highlighting challenges in diagnosis and management in this patient population.
In his address, Prof Daya nana Sharma Sharma emphasized India’s strong approach towards TB elimination under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, making a TB-free India a national priority. Prof. Sharma acknowledged the critical role of premier institutions like AIIMS in improving TB care through timely diagnosis, treatment adherence, and community awareness.
The CME programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, residents, and students.
