MOSCOW, Feb 24 : The Kremlin is not authorized to make decisions on blocking messengers, including Telegram; such decisions are up to relevant departments, spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday.
“The Kremlin is not authorized to make decisions on the expediency or inexpediency of blocking messengers. This is not part of the Kremlin’s function. This is part of the function of the relevant departments that do the work they should do,” Peskov told reporters when asked whether the Kremlin considers blocking Telegram necessary.
A large number of violations and the unwillingness of the Telegram administration to cooperate with the authorities of Russia are recorded, the official said, adding that the relevant Russian authorities are taking measures regarding Telegram, which they consider appropriate.
“A large amount of content is being recorded that could potentially pose a danger to our country,” Peskov added.
