JAMMU, Feb 21: Jammu Police has taken cognizance of a viral video circulating on social media showing an altercation involving a police officer in uniform, leading to the arrest of the accused.
According to officials, a written complaint was lodged on February 20 by Sub-Inspector Rajesh Kumar, posted at DPL Jammu. In his complaint, the officer stated that while he was on official duty and present at Trikuta Nagar Park for meal and medical purposes, a youth approached him and started using abusive and unparliamentary language.
The complainant further alleged that the youth, despite knowing that he was a serving police officer in uniform performing lawful duties, issued threats and physically assaulted him.
Acting swiftly, Bahu Fort Police registered FIR Number 52/2026 under Sections 132, 126(2), 352 and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and initiated an investigation.
During the course of investigation, the accused was identified with the help of technical and human intelligence inputs and was subsequently apprehended.
Police identified the accused as Sumit Verma, son of Rattan Chand, a resident of Maanpur, Kathua, at present residing in Trikuta Nagar, Jammu.
Further investigation in the case is underway, officials said.
