RAJOURI, Feb 17: Retired employees of the Coal Mine Project Moghla–Mehtka staged a strong protest in Kalakote on Tuesday, demanding the fulfillment of their long-pending issues.
The protesting employees later submitted a detailed memorandum to Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kalakote, Tanveer Khan.
The retired employees expressed serious concern over the delay in redressing their grievances and stated that they have unanimously decided to approach the Coal Mine Department and J&K Mineral Ltd. for immediate intervention regarding issues concerning retired coal mine employees from 2019 onwards.
They said that their primary demands include the release of CMPF in favor of retired employees from 2019 onwards, issuance of regular pension to the retirees of the same period, release of arrears under the 6th Pay Commission for the period from 2006 to 2016, and release of arrears under the 7th Pay Commission from 2016 to 2019. The protesting employees termed these demands as genuine and long overdue, stating that they have been waiting for justice for several years.
The retirees expressed hope that J&K Mineral Ltd, particularly the Mining Department, will give due priority to their issues and ensure early resolution. However, they also warned that if their demands are not addressed within a reasonable timeframe, they will be compelled to intensify their agitation and launch a large-scale protest movement in the near future.
