WELLINGTON, Jan 30: The New Zealand government has rejected US President Donald Trump’s offer to join the Board of Peace, the RNZ radio station reported, citing a statement from New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon.
The government has decided not to join the Board in its “current form,” the report said on Thursday.
New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters added in a separate statement that, since several countries have already joined the initiative, “New Zealand would not add significant further value to that.”
On January 16, Trump announced the formation of the Board of Peace, which includes US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law, Jared Kushner, former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, World Bank President Ajay Banga and US Deputy National Security Advisor Robert Gabriel. Trump also invited multiple world leaders, including from Russia and Belarus, to join.
