“An in-depth security review including ongoing anti-terror operations in the hilly areas of Doda, Kishtwar, Kathua, Udhampur etc in the Jammu region to eliminate the terrorists including foreigners will dominate the meeting agenda,” the sources said, adding contact has been established by security forces several times recently with terrorists but they managed to escape most of the times.
They added that all out focus of security agencies is on elimination of the terrorists wherever they are hiding especially during ongoing winters as there are reports that some of the groups may have come down in view of extreme chill.
While no major infiltration attempt has been reported along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) recently, the reports are that the terrorists have been camping at launch pads on Pakistan side of the borders waiting for an opportunity to sneak-in. Army and BSF have been maintaining very high alert along the LoC and IB to thwart the intrusion bids.
“Anti-infiltration measures and further strengthening of the Anti-Infiltration Grid are also expected to come up for review during the security meeting,” the sources said.
They added that the top Central officials are also expected to undertake a visit to the International Border in Jammu sector for on spot assessment of the situation.
The visit of the Union Home Secretary-led Central officials to the Jammu region comes less than a week after Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed security situation in Jammu and Kashmir in New Delhi on January 8. The meeting among others was attended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, top officials of MHA, paramilitary forces, Intelligence agencies and senior civil and police officials of J&K.
Appreciating the efforts of the security agencies for strengthening security scenario of J&K, Shah stated that “counter-terror operations targeting terrorist infrastructure and terror financing in a mission mode should be continued”.
